College Basketball Conference Tournament Betting Odds Preview

It’s conference tournament time in college basketball as teams look to lock up their spot in the Big Dance. One of the toughest tourneys to call right now may be the ACC Tournament.

The oddsmakers at top sportsbook Bovada have their favorite in the tournament, but not by much. On top of the ACC Tournament futures are the North Carolina Tar Heels at +220. Right behind them are the Virginia Cavaliers at +225. In the lone matchup this season between them the Cavaliers came out on top 79-74 as a 2.5-point home favorite.

Also getting good odds to win the tournament are the Miami Hurricanes at +400 and the Duke Blue Devils at +425. The Hurricanes have a win over Virginia and Duke this season, but they failed to take down the Tar Heels. Duke’s biggest win of the season came against North Carolina, but they also had a win over Virginia.

The defending champion of the ACC Tournament are the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. They are not expected to repeat as +1600 underdogs, but they did post upset wins over North Carolina and Duke this season.

The Tar Heels may be the tournament favorite on the odds, but they’ve been an awful pick in the ACC tourney in recent years. UNC has lost four of the last five tournament finals and they haven’t won the tournament since 2008.

Switching gears to the Big East, which the Bovada oddsmakers see as a three-team race between the Villanova Wildcats (+110), Xavier Musketeers (+225) and Butler Bulldogs (+550).

Butler’s odds may actually be a little high since they’ll likely have to defeat Villanova or Xavier to win the title. The Bulldogs have never beaten Villanova in seven tries and they’re 1-6 straight up and against the spread in their last seven versus Xavier.

The final of last year’s Big East Tournament came down to Villanova and Xavier with the Wildcats coming out on top 69-52 as a 7.5-point favorite. The Musketeers won their last matchup with the Wildcats in the regular season 90-83 as a 1-point home underdog. That snapped Villanova’s six-game winning streak against them.
