Pens, Hawks big series favorites at Topbet

The National Hockey League playoffs begin on Tuesday night, and with them come plenty of wagering opportunities at the sportsbooks – including updated Stanley Cup futures, series prices, and individual game lines at Topbet as puck drop approaches.

At Topbet, where you can get a 50% signing bonus on your first deposit up to $250, the series prices have been released for the eight first-round NHL betting matchups – and it comes as no surprise that the top seeds in each conference are big favorites to advance to Round 2.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are -550 favorites at Topbet to dispatch the New York Islanders (+400) in Eastern Conference action over the next two weeks, while the Chicago Blackhawks have a line of -500 at the sportsbook to knock out the Minnesota Wild (+375). Pittsburgh finished 17 points ahead of the Islanders in the East; Chicago was 22 points up on Minnesota.

The Boston Bruins are -230 favorites at Topbet against the Toronto Maple Leafs (+190), with the Montreal Canadiens favored at -165 over the Ottawa Senators (+145), and the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers both listed at -110 for their first-round series.

In the West the Anaheim Ducks sit at -145 for their best-of-seven series against the Detroit Red Wings (+125), with the Vancouver Canucks the -145 favorite against the San Jose Sharks (+125), and the St. Louis Blues and the Los Angeles Kings all square at -110 odds.

Most are expecting the Penguins and Blackhawks to end up meeting in the Stanley Cup final this spring, and at Topbet they both hold down odds of +300 to win the championship.

The Los Angeles Kings might get a few looks at +1400 on those Stanley Cup odds – they're the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference playoffs this season, but they ended up winning the championship last season as a No. 8 seed. The Detroit Red Wings, who struggled to get into the playoffs over the last week of the regular season, could hold some appeal at +3000.

NHL playoff betting gets underway on Tuesday, with Chicago (-225 on the moneyline) vs. Minnesota (+185), St. Louis (-130) vs. Los Angeles (+110), and Anaheim (-150) vs. Detroit (+130). Wednesday's Game 1s are then Boston (-190) vs. Toronto (+160), Pittsburgh (-245) vs. the Islanders (+205), and Vancouver (-140) vs. San Jose (+120).

The final two series then get going on Thursday night, with Montreal (-155) vs. Ottawa (+135) and Washington (-130) vs. the Rangers (+110). The Capitals surged in the second half of the season to finish in first place in the Southeast Division; Alexander Ovechkin and company are at +1400 on the Stanley Cup odds at Topbet heading into the playoffs.
