Utah State Opens Bowl Season as Heavy Betting Favorite

One of the first bowl games on this season’s college football postseason schedule is the New Mexico Bowl between the Mountain West’s Utah State Aggies and Conference USA's Texas El Paso Miners.

Top sportsbook Bovada has listed the Aggies as heavy 10.5-point favorites for Saturday's clash at University Stadium in Albuquerque.

Utah State has gone 6-3 against the spread in its last nine games while the Miners are 6-1 ATS in their last seven contests. UTEP is winless in its last four bowl appearances while failing to cover all four times, and the total has gone OVER in the last six New Mexico Bowls.

The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise features a MAC vs. MWC showdown between 8-4 Western Michigan and 9-3 Air Force with the Falcons listed as slight 1.5-point favorites.

The Broncos finished the regular season on a profitable 10-1 run ATS, but they have had their issues in the postseason with an 0-5 SU record in their last five bowl games dating all the way back to 1995. Air Force went 7-5 ATS this season with a 4-3 record ATS as a favorite.

The final game on Saturday’s slate pits South Alabama against Bowling Green in this season’s inaugural Camellia Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama. The 6-6 Jaguars, out of the Sun Belt, have been listed by Bovada as 3-point favorites over the MAC’s 7-6 Green Falcons.

South Alabama failed to cover ATS in six of their last seven games heading into their first bowl game in school history. Bowling Green is 0-4 SU and 1-3-1 ATS in its last four bowl games.

Tuesday’s Boca Raton Bowl between Northern Illinois and Marshall sees a line of -10 for the Herd, according to GTBets, as well as the Navy versus San Diego State matchup in this year’s Poinsettia Bowl.

However, turning to Wednesday’s first ever Bahama’s Bowl in Nassau, Bovada has listed C-USA’s Western Kentucky Hilltoppers as 4-point favorites against the MAC’s Central Michigan Chippewas, with both teams boasting SU 7-5 records on the year.

This game will be a rematch of the 2012 Little Caesar’s Bowl in which the Chippewas came out on top 24-21 as 6.5-point underdogs on the Bovada closing betting odds.
